Pro Arm Wrestler Devon Larratt Takes Us Down Memory Lane

The 44-year-old professional arm wrestler, Devon Larratt, doesn’t stop inspiring even during the Coronavirus quarantine. World Armwrestling League‘s (WAL) champion gets all nostalgic as he takes his fans and followers 21 years back to his first national title. That’s when the young Canadian soldier met Matt Mask for the first time too.

The Beginning of Devon Larratt’s Canadian Armwrestling reign

As the Coronavirus pandemic locks every down at home, the internet and mobile tech have become a connection to the outside world. One of the world’s best arm wrestlers, Devon Larratt is also relying on mobile technology to connect and inspire millions through his YouTube channel.

Unlike the other videos that mostly showcase him sparring and focus on how to get better at arm wrestling, his channel’s latest offering is a little different. The video (courtesy of ArmSportVideos), captures the events of his very first right-hand provincial title in 1999.

At the time, John Roberts left the sport and that paved way for Devon Larratt to become the best arm wrestler in Canada.

Former champ, John Roberts, decided to retire from arm wrestling at this time and kind of opened the door for me to step up. This gave me an opportunity to take his place and begin my Canadian reign.

The initial moments of the video also showcase another heavyweight of the sport, Matt Mask. According to Devon Larratt, it was their first interaction.

Guys, this is Matt Mask right here. I think he is 18 or 19 at the time, I’m 24 and this is the first time we ever met. He beat everybody that day, except for me. It’s the 100 kilo category that we’re pulling. Matt and I have a long relationship.

WAL champion Devon Larratt also shared that it was the best era for arm wrestling.

I was just a young soldier back then. They used to pay for everything and take care of me. It was a great time to be alive.
