For Millennials. By Millennials.
After starring alongside each other in 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, Awkwafina and Karen Gillan will now soon reunite for their upcoming movie project Shelly. This new comedy-action movie is currently in a pitch by Ian Bryce Productions. Deadline is reporting that there is a good chance this movie will sell. Although movie productions are at a pause (due to COVID-19), this movie still looks to be in a good position right now.
Karen Gillan In New Movie Shelly
Screenwriters Michael Doneger and Liz Storm are working on the film. It follows the main character Shelly Wheeler (Awkwafina). She ran out of her hometown a decade ago after an embarrassing prom incident. So now, the trauma has shaped her from a tender-heart to an ice-cold and prank-hardened woman. Her next target is this former high school tormentor Diana Park (Karen Gillan) and she realizes her opportunity to finally avenge her high-school self.
However, as all movies go, Awkwafina’s character eventually becomes best friends with Karen Gillan’s role. Shelly then finds herself being part of the cool gang. She always wanted to be in the cool squad, something she desired since during the school days. Now it is up to Diana to save Shelly and the friendship from another hit crew who is hired to kill both of them.
DailyMail UK reports that Jude Weng will be taking on the seat for the director for the movie, who also describes this movie as “Mean Girls meeting Barry”. Ian Bryce Productions are coming on board for support along with Will McCance as the executive producer and Katie Malott as co-producer.
While Karen Gillan already has Hollywood experience, Awkwafina turned out to be a big pop. The actress won Golden Globe in January and received critical acclamation for her comedy-drama The Farewell last year. Now we are going to see her star in Marvel movies, just like Gillan.
