For Millennials. By Millennials.
The Vampire Diaries started streaming 11 years ago, and it wrapped up in March 2017. Many fans believed that the series lost its charm when The Originals were separated from it. However, TVD is still one of the rare series that have yielded 2 spin-offs. We might agree on the fact that Mystic Falls was not the same without Mikaelsons. But we cannot deny the music selection throughout the series. Without Elena and the Originals, we still watched the series for the songs, Salvatore Brothers and Enzo (Michael Malarkey). The Vampire Diaries had an amazing collection of songs. And here are some of the greatest songs to give you that nostalgic feel.
The Vampire Diaries Season 1: Cut-Plumb
Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) had the “love at first sight” moment in The Vampire Diaries season 1 episode 1. However, his confession of being a vampire might have affected their crush a little. But did that scare Elena off? Nope, it did not. The two shared their love in season 1 episode 10. The sweet song in the background was Cut by Plumb.
Yes, all the iconic scenes had iconic songs.
The Vampire Diaries Season 1: Bloodstream- Stateless
The moment when Damon Salvatore “inhales” Katherine, taking her as Elena Gilbert. Fans had to wait till next season just to see whether Damon knew it was Katherine, not Elena. It was Ian Somerhalder’s and Nine Dobrev’s first official kiss on the set of The Vampire Diaries. However, Nina was playing the role of Katherine at that moment, not of Elena. You know, Doppelganger sh*t.
TVD Season 3: Holding On and Letting Go- Ross Copperman
The song was featured in the 10th episode of Season 3, titled The New Deal. Fans had been waiting for one kiss between Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) since they laid their eyes on Damon in season 1. The pain-in-the-as* Salvatore brother always had some troubles planned to highlight his evil side to the world. However, even his bad boy image couldn’t stop him from falling in love with Elena, his “brother’s girl”.
Ross Copperman’s Holding On and Letting Go compliment the first kiss shared by Elena and Damon.
TVD Season 3: Never Let Me Go- Florence and The Machine
The moment when we see Elena Gilbert drooling over Damon Salvatore’s abs in a motel, while she is pretending to be asleep. Caught red-handed, she gives up trying to hide that she is ogling him, and he joins her in the bed. But nothing fishy happens until it happens after a moment with Never Let Me Go playing in the background.
TVD Season 6: Wait- M83
The bittersweet song that stirs something deep inside your heart whenever you hear it. Wait by M83 was featured in The Vampire Diaries season 6 episode 5, when Damon returns from the other side and Stefan thinks he is hallucinating.
As we said, all the iconic moments had iconic songs in the series. This time, it was not an iconic kiss, instead, the song starts when Taylor is talking to Liv about saving his life. The scene moves on to Stefan in the Salvatore crypt when Damon shows up from the other side, in the flesh and not dead.
The Vampire Diaries Season 6: Hunger- Ross Copperman
Seems like the TVD song selection team knew Ross Copperman’s songs fit best for Damon & Elena, for the first time they kissed to the last time they danced together and said goodbye. In The Vampire Diaries season 6, episode 22, Bonnie is linked to Elena, which means Elena will sleep till the day Bonnie dies.
The song is also iconic, because it was not just a goodbye between Damon and Elena. It was also a goodbye between Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev as a couple. Both of them dated for a few years before breaking up during the shoot of season 6.
