Elliot Page is a Canadian actor and producer. Their career began with roles in television shows such as Pit Pony, Trailer Park Boys, and ReGenesis. He starred in the 2005 drama Hard Candy. Moreover, he even won the Austin Film Critics Association’s Award for Best Actress. Now, he’s co-directing a new movie ‘There’s Something in the Water’ with friend Ian Daniel.
In the time of drastic climate change; when the Amazon burns, the world stands at a halt: stranded. Celebrities have taken a stance to raise awareness about the issue. Countries have stepped forward with aid to try to control the situation. Actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Shawn Mendes, and Emma Thompson are environmentalists, tirelessly working for the world.
Elliot Page is one of those individuals too. Hollywood star Elliot Page has returned to their native Nova Scotia on Canada’s Atlantic coast to direct their first film on “environmental racism”, debuting Sunday at Toronto’s International Film Festival. The festival itself targets a large audience, with numerous influencers from around the world, gathered in one area. Page’s film follows stories in three historically black or indigenous rural communities in Nova Scotia, a province with about one million residents. Some 2.7% of Canada’s entire population. It features communities battling to stop the construction of a new dump, while others push for the cleanup of a contaminated waterway or oppose the construction of a natural gas storage facility.
The documentary took less than two weeks to film. Page traveled to interview activists and “water protectors” for the movie. Page said he was “thrilled” the documentary had been accepted for the Toronto festival and was “hopeful that the large platform TIFF provides will help spark the change that is needed”.
Documentaries and films like these can be the last resort to actually explain the seriousness of the climate change issues. The world desperately needs to fix the issue of climate change. It is not long before the consequences wipe us away. We’re glad Ian Daniel and Elliot Page are doing their part to highlight the issue.
