Daenerys vs. Cersei: Who Will Be on the Iron Throne by the end of Game of Thrones Season 8

Published by

Game of Thrones is finally nearing its end, and the excitement has intensified. Everyone was curious to see who would emerge victorious in the Battle of Winterfell. It turns out that Arya Stark was preparing for this one moment her entire life. She was the one to end the Night King and his army of Wights finally. But we are still left wondering, who will be on the Iron Throne? Right now, we have two major players. Daenerys Targaryan (Emilia Clarke) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

Logically speaking, ( Kit Harrington) Jon Snow or Aegon Targaryen is the true heir to the throne. But it seems he will give up the position to her out of love for Dany or perhaps a lack of interest in ruling. They might just get married to each other and rule the Seven kingdoms together. The fact that they’re related won’t matter since they are Targaryens.

In either case, Jon Snow is not a fan of Cersei Lannister. Well, at this point, no one is. Except, of course, Theon’s annoying masochistic uncle Euron. And maybe those elephants she couldn’t stop talking about.

But by the end of the day, the two main contestants will head to head. That’s Khaleesi and Cersei. Let’s assess who has the resources to win the Iron Throne, something they’ve lusted for literally all their lives.

Who Has the Bigger Army?

Fortunately, to some keen-minded fans of Game of Thrones, we have an accurate assessment of the army size. Before the Battle of Winterfell, Khaleesi had about ten thousand Northerners, ten thousand Vale soldiers, less than eight thousand Unsullied, and less than a hundred thousand Dothraki.

During Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3, ‘Battle of Winterfell,’ the Dothraki were utterly destroyed by the Wight army. Moreover, Jon’s army and the Unsullied also suffered a considerable blow, decreasing their numbers significantly.

Due to the darkness, it’s hard to quote the exact numbers of the survivors. We know those prominent members who survived: Jaime Lannister, Brienne of Tarth, Daenerys and both her dragons, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Gendry, Tyrion Lannister, Podrick, Samwell Tarly, Tormund Giantsbane, Grey Worm, Missandei, Varys, and Jon Snow.

Whereas Cersei’s army is numbered about a total of sixty thousand: 20 000 she bought from the Golden company, the remainder of the Lannister army that’s believed to be about 10,000, and Euron’s Iron born approximately 30,000.

Overall, we can’t be exact about the numbers. But it seems like Cersei’s army may have a larger number. Moreover, the fact that she selfishly didn’t send hers to fight alongside the Northerners against the Night King works well in her favor. The soldiers will be in a better position to fight Dany’s army.

Better Weaponry: Dany Or Cersei?

Daenerys Targaryen has two dragons. But we have seen that they’re not entirely invincible. The Night King shot them down, and we got our zombie dragon. Plus, Bronn even managed to shoot Drogon.

Though dragons are dragons, they can breathe out fire and annihilate anyone that Khaleesi orders them to. So, they’re an excellent defense for Cersei’s army.

However, it’s not like Cersei is entirely defenseless. Remember the wildfire she used to blow up the Sept of Baelor in season 6? Well, she still has plenty of that left. Qybrun’s necromancy powers can be utilized as well.

It seems like both Daenerys Targaryen, and Cersei Lannister have about an equal amount in terms of resources. Perhaps, it will be a matter of luck that dictates who will be on the Iron Throne. And by luck we mean who George R.R. Martin, David Benioff, and D.B. Weiss deemed worthy enough.
