Amanda Seyfried Not Sold on the Idea of Mamma Mia 3

Published by

When a film gets famous, people expect and anticipate sequels. While Mamma Mia released a successful sequel, fans wanted Mamma Mia 3. However, Amanda Seyfried does not want another film.

While the original film released in 2008, the sequel came after 10 years.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Catherine Johnson, the film is based on the 1999 musical of the same name. Throughout the film, songs by ABBA  featured. According to the synopsis, a bride-to-be, Sophie, is on a quest to find her father and invites three men who are potential fathers. Meanwhile, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again focuses more on Sophie’s mother, Donna, and how she met the three potential fathers. The ensemble cast includes  Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgård, Meryl Streep and Julie Walters. After the success of the sequel, the fans want Mamma Mia 3 as well.

While the fans love the idea of Mamma Mia 3, Amanda Seyfried is not sold.

Although Meryl Streep’s character died in the previous film, fans still think Mamma Mia 3 should happen. However, Amanda Seyfriend, who plays a vital role in the film, thinks otherwise. While talking about it, she said:

“Well it’s a better story, because they had something to grow on. Like the first story had to match the stage show. So it was like, they were kind of stuck. With the second story, it could have been anything.”

Talking about Streep’s character, Seyfried said:

“Having Meryl’s character die kind of gave us so many good storylines. It was kind of a genius idea because you’re like, no, we don’t want to lose her. But at the same time, look at what you can do, you can go back. And Lily James can play young Meryl. It was just perfect. It was so well written.”

Having said that, Amanda Seyfried would love to do Mamma Mia 3.

“I wish there was a Mamma Mia 3, but I’ll tell you what – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I hope I’m wrong again. I don’t think there are enough ABBA songs to make a third movie. Because we’d have to use ‘Super Trooper’ again and we’d have to use ‘Mamma Mia’ again and have to use them in a different way.”
