For Millennials. By Millennials.
John Legend and Kanye West have had quite a wild ride.
Working on collaborations and being close enough friends that John performed at the Kimye Wedding in 2014 wasn’t enough. When in 2018, Kanye West expressed his support to then candidate, Donald Trump. John requested him to reconsider. However, this led to the rapper/designer posting private text messages with the All Of Me singer on Twitter. After which everything was downhill.
John did say, “I’m not trying to disown Kanye because I still love him and love everything we’ve done together creatively. But we were never the closest of friends.” This was a year later to Vanity Fair.
Their rift often left their wives Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian in the middle. However, we know that the two are still close friends as they both are often seen sending each other their PR packages.
As for John and Kanye, the former revealed in a new interview with The Sunday Times where they currently stand.
What’s The Status Of John Legend & Kanye West’s Relationship?
John revealed that the two aren’t exactly BFFs right now. And that’s not because of the political differences they’ve had in the past.
“I don’t think we’re less friends because of the Trump thing,” he said. “I just think we’re doing our own thing. He’s up in Wyoming. I’m here in LA. We’ve both got growing families and I no longer have a formal business relationship with him as an artist, so I think it’s just part of the natural cycle of life.”
John did say they’ve never seen eye to eye about politics and still don’t. But they’ve never really talked about politics. Their interaction has always been more focused on the creative side of things. And since Kanye is busy doing his own thing, i.e. gospel music and designing his line, they’re just in different places currently. However, John did say he would be open to the idea of attending Kanye’s Sunday Service performances. So a reunion might not be too far away.
