For Millennials. By Millennials.
It’s obvious that Stranger Things season 3 has proved more popular than expected. While fans have all picked out their favorites to reminisce, there is something going on in the back of all heads. Apparently, one conversation has made everybody feel that Will Byers from Stranger Things is gay. But looks like actor Noah Schnapp has a different take on his character’s sexuality. This one is definitely not the first time that Schnapp has shared something like that!
What Makes Noah Schnapp Believe his Character Will Byers in Stranger Things Isn’t Gay
In Stranger Things season 3, Mike (Finn Wolfard) yelled at Will played by Noah that it was not his fault if he did not like girls. Eventually, this conversation led many fans to believe that Byers was actually gay. But in an interview, Schnapp had a different perspective on his character’s sexuality. He interpreted the situation claiming that his character was not ready to grow up, or move on to dating and relationships just yet. What he really wants is that he can play games in the basement like he previously used to.
Noah Schnapp draws his interpretation from the journey of Will Byers in Stranger Things. It is his trauma of surviving Upside Down which leads to his lack of interest in girls. Noah explained that,
While all the characters were out developing and growing up, Will was in the Upside Down and he was alone there, not interacting with or connected to his friends or the rest of the world. And when he got back, he expected everything to just go back to how it was before, how it was when he was normal and when he was a kid and he wanted to go back to the basement and play D&D.
Back in season 1, Noah also discussed that whether or not Will Byers was gay missed the point of the show.
Plus, Stranger Things was open about Maya Hawke’s character Robin coming out as gay. It doesn’t make sense for them to be vague about Will Byers’ sexuality.
