In a recent update on bathing/non-bathing celebrities, Matthew McConaughey has also joined the list. Although he does take baths, the Oscar-winning actor has not worn deodorant for the past 30 years. As unbelievable as it sounds, he confirmed it in a recent interview. However, one of her former co-stars ensures people don’t get the wrong idea about his confession.
Why are celebrities sharing their bathing routine?
It all began when Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis shared how many times their kids take a bath. According to them, only wash your kids if you see dirt. Similarly, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have more or less the same routine. After these confessions, floodgates opened, and un-showered celebrities came running. From Brad Pitt to Jake Gyllenhaal, Zac Efron to Charlize Theron, it seems that hardly anyone showers in Hollywood. Allegedly, Robert Pattinson and Russel Crowe make their co-stars gag with their stench. However, you would not expect Matthew McConaughey to be on that list, would you? Think again.
In a recent interview, Matthew McConaughey revealed that he does not wear deodorant.
During an interview with Playboy, Matthew McConaughey shared that he has not worn deodorant for the past 30 years. Due to this habit, his co-star, Kate Hudson, got frustrated on the sets of Fool’s Gold. While recalling the incident, he said:
She always brings a salt rock, which is some natural deodorant, and says, ‘Would you please put this on?’ I just never wore it. No cologne, no deodorant.
Furthermore, Interstellar star said:
‘The women in my life, including my mother, have all said, “Hey, your natural smell smells, one, like a man, and, two, smells like you.” I do not like to smell like someone or something else.’
Despite not wearing deodorant, Matthew McConaughey takes multiple showers and brushes his teeth at least five times daily. So, he does clean himself a lot, thus making him clear of the other department.
After Matthew McConaughey’s confession became public, his former co-star, Yvette Nicole Brown, gave her two cents.
Brown and McConaughey worked together in the infamous film Tropic Thunder. She had something to say when the news of him not wearing a deodorant came out. While talking to SiriusXM, Brown said:
I remember that Matthew McConaughey said that he did not use deodorant and that he didn’t have an odor. So my first thought was, “I’m going to get as close as I can to him to see if he’s right.”
At the same time, she revealed that he does not stink and has a rather distinct smell.
He does not have an odor. He smells like granola and good living. He has a sweet, sweet scent. That is just him, and it’s not musty or crazy.
Although he does not wear deodorant, we can forgive Matthew McConaughey because he does a shower. Meanwhile, I still cannot get over that Jake Gyllenhaal stinks!
