It is the #MeToo era, where consent is quite thankfully everything. After continual breaches and violations of civil rights, women are finally speaking up against maltreatment. There are regular attempts to uproot the very foundations of sexual harassment and assault. And celebrities are fairly expressive in how they visualize the end of this mayhem. Disney’s very own Princess Anna, Kristen Bell feels that several princess stories haven’t aged well.
Additionally, she mentioned that stories, specifically Snow White transmit the wrong messages about consent. Kristen Bell has, in fact, gone ahead to question the ethics of the Snow White with her daughters. As she feels that it is essential, amidst this social upheaval, to know the rights and wrongs of human rights.
The Prince Kisses A Sleeping Snow White Without Seeking Permission
Bell, 38, was dumbfounded at the idea of a prince kissing a dormant Snow White. Kristen Bell describes the kiss as ‘weird’ as she warns her daughters about the inappropriate behavior from the prince’s side. If we scrutinize the points put forward by Kristen Bell with a logical lens, this classic Snow White scene makes no sense either. After all. we never know if Snow White wanted the kiss in the first place. And secondly, a non-consensual intimate moment with an inactive girl would sound pretty obnoxious if we subtract the fairy-tale element from it.
Snow White Accepts An Apple From A Stranger
This isn’t the only sequence Bell has objected to. Kristen Bell was also not very thrilled about Snow White accepting an apple from a stranger that too without even a basic sense of curiosity. She said “Every time we close Snow White I look at my girls and ask. ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’ I say, ‘I would never take food from a stranger, would you?’ And my kids are like, ‘No!’ And I’m like. ‘Okay, I’m doing something right.”
Kristen Bell Has Waged A Social Media War
Sadly, Kristen Bell has received backlash for her thoughtful quotes. However, she continues to fight back strongly. One fan criticized Bell for being a Disney Princess herself. “I’m disgusted with Hollywood hypocrites. They didn’t have an issue signing contracts to play Disney princesses, cashing their huge cheques. Why the outrage now?
To this, Kristen Bell boldly gave a befitting reply.
“It’s cute that you guys are making jokes about something that I feel is very important. I’d be happy to send you copies and snow white and frozen, and you can see the differences. How far the example set for women has come. It might enlighten your point of view.”
Kristen Bell’s Snow White row is aimed at good parenting, even if it comes at the expense of dubiety around the Disney princess brand. Finally, All we can hope is for people to understand her point of view.
