In August 2020, Hilary Duff announced that Lizzie McGuire was returning to the TV screens.
While the original series ran from 2001 to 2004, all still love the show. After the success of Lizzie McGuire, it also got a film of the same name where Hilary Duff’s character went to Italy. In the middle of 2020, the fans got the good news that the show was coming back. During the announcement event of the Lizzie McGuire reboot, Hilary Duff said:
“The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie’s also grown up. She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting. She has her dream job. She has kind of the perfect life right now.”
Right in the middle of the shooting, Disney announced that the show was canceled.
According to the reports, the show’s original creator, Terri Minsky, stepped down after creative differences with Disney. Later, Disney announced that they were canceling the reboot for good. In a statement, a spokesperson said:
“Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series. After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the series.”
Similarly, Hilary Duff made her own statement on Instagram and said:
I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with Lizzie, who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her. I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG ratings. Its important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/ teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable.
Recently, Hilary Duff talked about the future of Lizzie McGuire’s reboot.
In a recent interview, Hilary Duff talked about Lizzie McGuire’s reboot and if it was going to happen at all. While she did not wholly reject the idea of it happening, she did not confirm it. According to her:
“I don’t think it’s dead, and I don’t think it’s alive. I think it’s just kind of sitting there…
At first, I was like, ‘No, thank you,’, and then one day, I was like, ‘Yup.’ There’s much love there. There’s always struggle with something that’s so loved and important to so many people, I just keep my heart and my mind open. I don’t think that ‘How I Met Your Father’ would’ve come about if ‘Lizzie’ had happened.”
Furthermore, Hilary Duff also talked about the possibility of leaking the episodes. She said she has thought a lot about it and sometimes wants to. However, she believes that everything happens for a reason. According to Hilary Duff, the talk of the reboot breathes life into the fact that people really want it. The show’s fans should not lose hope because it might come back to life.
