Did Mindhunter deserve to get canceled?

I am sure you have all heard about the famous thriller FBI show, Mindhunter. Mindhunter got two seasons and was put on indefinite hold after the second season but it might not be coming back for a third season.

Mindhunter was released in 2017. It is a criminal, FBI-related show. Two of the FBI agents, Bill Tench and Holden Ford attempt to catch serial killers by studying their damaged psyches. The show also shows a little bit of the love life of both the agents as well. Agent Tench has a wife and an adopted kid. Trench’s kid gets into some trouble (don’t worry, we won’t give you any spoilers) which puts a dent into Trench’s marriage. Ford has a beautiful girlfriend but things don’t seem too good with them at the end of the first season. There is a doctor involved in their little team as well. Dr. Carr joins Ford and Trench’s team because she thinks that studying serial killers could offer revolutionary insights. She leaves her job and her partner to move to a new city and pursue a new job.

However, this is just half of what the show really is as it is filled with drama, thrillers, and crime. Everything is happening in just two seasons of the show. Moreover, another thing you might find interesting is that Mindhunter is inspired by the true story of how the FBI started studying psychopaths and serial killers in 1970.

A case for Mindhunter

One thing that stands out about Mindhunter was its potential to expand. It wasn’t a show that necessarily had to be restricted by the bounds of reality. With Holden Ford and Bill Tench, the showrunners could have explored a wide variety of serial killers that have grasped the United States with their fear. Unlike most Netflix Docuseries, Mindhunter could juxtapose a number of serial killers, showing just how such killers survive in society and tell us of their abhorrent mindset.

Apart from that, Mindhunter also left millions of viewers curious over unanswered questions. Most important of all, the BTK killer Dennis Lynn Rader remained a mystery, something that the show was building up to for 2 seasons. That is just criminal negligence from Netflix. He is one of those killers that evaded law enforcement for decades and got caught under very peculiar circumstances. Therefore, the audience deserved to see his end at the very least.

Will we be getting a third season?

Mindhunter captivates the audience because it is based on a true story. It was directed by Renny Harlin and Oscar nominee, David Fincher. Sadly, we only got two seasons of this incredible show as the team decided to put the show on indefinite hold. For now, Netflix has no plans to make a third season of the show because the actors were released from their contracts in January 2020. Rumor has it that the director of the show is working on some other projects. So, it looks like we might not be getting a third season of the show. Therefore, we can only hope that the directors decide to give us the next season because like us many other people are waiting as well.
