Let’s be honest, we’ve all held our fair share of grudges. Some of them have spanned for years as well. And celebrities are no different from us. In fact, George Clooney still has a seven-year grudge against Russell Crowe. Here’s why there’s so much beef between the two Oscar winners.
The seven-year grudge George Clooney has against Russel Crowe
So, it all began back in 2013, when Clooney revealed in an interview with Esquire that he had beef with the Gladiator actor for some really bizarre reasons. Clooney said:
The truth is that [Russell] did send me a book of poems to apologize for insulting the shit out of me, which he did. He picked a fight with me. He started it for no reason at all.
Clooney further revealed what the fight with Crowe was really about, saying:
He put out this thing saying, ‘George Clooney, Harrison Ford, and Robert De Niro are sellouts’. And I put out a statement saying, ‘He’s probably right. And I’m glad he told us, ’cause Bob [De Niro] and Harrison and I were also thinking about starting a band, which would also fall under the heading of bad use of celebrity’.
Evidently, George Clooney was not willing to tolerate anything coming from Russell Crowe. Especially considering that it came absolutely out of the blue. Like, for him, there was no provocation. In this month’s issue of GQ, the interviewer asked the Up In The Air if he had a list of enemies. And sure enough, Crowe was on the list. Clooney said:
Just out of the blue, [Russell] is like, ‘I’m not some sellout like Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford and George Clooney’. I’m like, ‘Where the f*ck did that come from?’.
As petty as this beef is, it is incredibly relatable. We have met people throughout our lives who pick a feud with us without any reason. And then sending Clooney a poem book as an apology? It’s bizarre. But just makes us realize that Hollywood can really be a lot like our workplace. So, what do you guys think of this beef? Let us know in the comments below.
