One of Harvey Weinstein’s Victim Shows Support for Johnny Depp

After the recent court ruling in the UK, Johnny Depp has received support from one of Harvey Weinstein‘s victims! Asia Argento, who was one of the first women to publically accuse Weinstein of sexual assault, has thrown a gesture in favor of Depp.

Back when The New Yorker released their original piece on Harvey Weinstein that Ronan Farrow wrote, Asia Argento was one of the first brave women to come forward with sexual assault allegations against Weinstein. It occurred back in 1997 at the Cannes film festival, when the actress was 21 years old. Now, however, Argento has taken a relatively controversial stance in the eyes of some belonging to the #MeToo movement.

Johnny Depp lost his libel case against British publishers The Sun. The ruling, in fact, declared that the Sun’s claim of Depp being a “wife-beater” was true. Depp will be appealing this judgment, however, until then, he announced on Instagram that Warner Bros. asked him to resign from the role of Grindelwald in Harry Potter’s Fantastic Beast.

Depp further wrote that he plans to appeal the judgment as well and that his resolve remains strong. Moreover, Johnny Depp also got support from one of Weinstein’s victims, Asia Argento herself. She did so by liking his statement on Instagram. Other than Argento, Robert Downey Jr., Indian actress Parineeti Chopra, and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan also liked Depp’s post.

What does Argento’s support mean for Depp?

Johnny Depp receiving support from one of Harvey Weinstein’s victims shows how complicated this case is. Of course, one of the biggest problems in sexual harassment and misconduct cases is a lack of evidence. However, Depp presented a lot of compelling evidence in his favor and against Amber Heard.

In Ronan Farrow’s piece on Harvey Weinstein, he clearly mentioned Argento’s words on how Harvey Weinstein deprived so many women of having good careers. Even as she told Farrow her story, it was terrifying for Argento, as she said:

I know he has crushed a lot of people before. That’s why this story — in my case, it’s 20 years old, some of them are older — has never come out. Just talking to you about it, my whole body is shaking.
