The internet has been a hostile place for Chris Pratt for the past week. After being labeled “Hollywood worst Chris,” Twitter called him out for his conservative political views. Afterward, his Avengers co-stars came to his rescue, defending him publically on social media. However, fans are furious at the Avengers for defending the actor.
Avengers defend Chris Pratt
After Chris Pratt’s political views got so much public traction, the Avengers cast came out to defend one of their own. Even though Pratt has himself stayed silent on the outrage, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, and Zoe Saldana decided to speak out. Downey Jr. went as far as to say that:
If you take issue with Chris, I’ve got a novel idea. Delete your social media accounts, sit with your OWN defects of character, work on THEM, then celebrate your humanness.
Other than Downey Jr. Mark Ruffalo also tweeted in defense of Chris Pratt. He wrote:
You all, @prattprattpratt is as solid a man there is. I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life. He is just not overtly political as a rule.
Your family, friends, colleagues & everyone who’s ever crossed paths with you knows your heart and your worth!
Now, this looks very cute and nice that these Marvel stars came for Pratt’s defense. But, fans were furious at them for doing so. Not because they believe Chris Pratt’s political views are indefensible, but because they didn’t show the same energy when Brie Larson was getting so much unwarranted hate and abuse from thousands of sexists online.
Fans are furious at the Avengers for not defending Brie Larson
Unlike Chris Pratt, Brie Larson has very progressive and inclusive political views. She also advocated for greater diversity in Hollywood. However, she never got the backing from her fellow Avengers co-stars that Chris Pratt got. Instead, thousands of sexist and meninist Marvel fans crucified Larson and Captain Marvel.
Furthermore, fans also highlighted how the Marvel cast was mostly absent when Zendaya was under the firing line as well. She got a lot of stick for just portraying a white character even though Zendaya herself was bi-racial. There was nothing wrong with her portrayal of Marry Jane from a critical perspective. In fact, it was a fresh reimagination of a historically monotonous love interest for Spider-Man. But, that did not stop some racist fans to direct a lot of vile abuse towards her.
Moreover, Anthony Mackie also got a lot of racist abuse when Marvel named him the new Captain America. Sadly, the Avengers did not assemble for both of these co-stars. And fans did not fail to highlight that when the Avengers assembled for Chris Pratt.
Needless to say, if the Avengers failed to assemble for Zendaya, Brie Larson, and Anthony Mackie, then assembling for Chris Pratt seems very distasteful. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
