Fans of the caped crusader have just been dealt a considerable blow. Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19 just days after filming of the upcoming Batman movie resumed. So, what does this mean for the production of Batman?
The news broke out when Warner Bros. told Vanity Fair that a member of the crew tested positive for COVID-19. Their statement read:
“A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused.”
However, Robert Pattinson was the member who tested positive for COVID-19, Vanity Fair’s credible sources confirmed. The production previously shut down back in March when the pandemic began. It resumed in September but was paused again just days after resumption due to Pattinson’s illness. So, the question that remains is:
How Robert Pattinson getting COVID-19 will impact Batman production?
After months of waiting, Batman was finally back on its way towards completion. But, Robert Pattinson testing positive for COVID-19 has sent the project back to a halt. However, the implications of this can go far beyond just Batman. For now, Pattinson will have to quarantine for a couple of weeks at least. And if he has mild symptoms, he’ll be back up in three to four weeks, which is when the production could likely resume. That is of course if someone else didn’t catch COVID-19 on set from Robert Pattinson.
When it comes to the bigger picture, this could spell a lot of problems for all the other paused productions in Hollywood. It means that studios will have to be a lot more strict when it comes to social distancing. Moreover, they’ll have to do regular testing of the crew members as well. Since Robert Pattinson test positive almost as soon as production of Batman resumed, there’s a chance that he got COVID-19 before coming on set. Therefore, studios will have to be more vigilant to prevent any outbreak onset.
What we know about the upcoming Batman film
The new Batman movie will feature Batman during his second year of being a vigilante. With Planet of the Apes filmmaker Matt Reeves as the director, Robert Pattinson’s Batman will be investigating a number of serial murders. On his way of solving these murders, he will face Paul Dano’s The Riddler, Zoë Kravitz’s Selina Kyle, and Colin Farrel’s Penguin. Other than them, Jeffrey Wright will be playing Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis will be playing Bruce Wayne’s loyal and talented butler Alfred. And finally, John Turturro will be playing the gangster Carmine Falcone. We hope that Robert Pattinson’s Batman sets a shining example of how to play the caped crusader!
