Before stepping into the Hollywood realm, Eiza Gonzalez worked in Mexican telenovelas.

At the age of 14, she got into a famous acting school in Mexico. That is when she was spotted by producer, Pedro Damian. Shortly after, Eiza Gonzalez got the first lead role of her career in a telenovela, Lola, érase una vez. Thus began her acting career and brought her more opportunities within Mexico. However, she moved to LA and starred in the series version of Salma Hayek movie, From Dusk Till Dawn. Since then, Eiza Gonzalez has worked in many popular films like Baby Driver, Hobbs & Shaw, Bloodshot, and Godzilla vs. Kong. Since a few days back, she is in the news for her new relationship with Timothée Chalamet. Recently, her very first lead role has been in news due to a controversial reason.

After a picture of Blackface resurfaced, Baby Driver actress had to apologize.

In her first telenovela, Eiza Gonzalez wore a Blackface which has upset her fans and others. Since the Black Lives Matter movement has forced people to take steps, no one is immune to the wrath of people. Therefore, Eiza Gonzalez immediately apologized in a lengthy statement. She said:

“I am deeply sorry and ashamed about having worn blackface makeup shown in the images circulating. As a 15-year-old child actor on my first job in a Mexican telenovela, I was pressured against my will, and with no negotiating power, I could not advocate for myself in the situation. I wish I had the voice and knowledge then that I have now.”

Furthermore, she said:

“As a Mexican woman and an immigrant, I have faced racism and ignorance throughout my life and career. I would never intentionally participate in anything that I knew would cause harm or distress to another person. More than gestures of apology, it is my responsibility to educate myself and use my voice to stand up for others. And again I deeply apologize for hurting anyone.”
