Spin-off Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Gets A Trailer

The grotesque horror series, Penny Dreadful ended abruptly back in 2016. But, now it is back from the dead in a series spin-off. The spin-off is ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’. We also have a teaser for this new upcoming series which has got the fans very excited. The setting of the spin-off is different from Penny Dreadful but it has a lot for the fans to look forward to.

The original Penny Dreadful

The original Penny Dreadful was set way back in the nineteenth century in England. The show took inspiration from classical horror tales of that era. Tales like Frankenstein and Dracula. It had an eerie sense of darkness and supernatural vibes.

Whereas, the spin-off shows us a story in 1938 in Los Angeles. It is an amalgamation of historical and cultural disturbances from that time. But what makes this spin-off true to its original predecessor is the streak of supernatural darkness played by the Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer. And she’s playing a shape-shifting demon named Magda. The spin-off series will revolve around the Mexican folklore surrounding Santa Muerte. And she’s a female depiction of death resembling the Grim Reaper.

A spiritual descendant of the original Penny Dreadful story set in Victorian-era London, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) and his partner Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane) become embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.
