Billie Eilish’s James Bond theme song is phenomenal

"No Time to Die" is the theme for the 25th James Bond film.

Billie Eilish is the gift that just keeps on giving. The teenage star has surprised fans and haters alike with her amazing performances. She has become the youngest person in the history of the Bond franchise to write and record a song. That is something of a record, considering the franchise consists of 25 films released over 58 years. The song is titled “No Time to Die” after the James Bond movie. The video has already grossed 27M views within 4 days.

Billie Eilish’s statement over ‘No Time to Die’:

Eilish wrote and produced the title song with her elder brother Finneas O’Connell late last year. She just gave her first live performance of the theme at this month’s Brit Awards, accompanied by composer Hans Zimmer and former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. The singer was up for ‘best international female solo artist’ at the ceremony, and she won it just two weeks after sweeping all four of the main categories at the Grammys. Speaking at the Grammys in January, she said working on the franchise had always been one of their goals.

It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honor. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock.

James Bond’s theme review:

The moody track was produced and written by Eilish and her collaborator brother, Finneas.   The lyrics certainly project a sense of betrayal and sadness that Daniel Craig‘s last film will bring. The theme song has certainly caught fans and critics alike by surprise.
BBC Entertainment thinks it is the ‘first serious Oscar contender for next year.’ The Independent described the theme as one of the best we’ve had in a while.
The flourish of violins, electronic guitar, and faint brass all pay tribute to classic Bond theme tropes, but Billie Eilish’s subtle synth motif makes this song her own.
The movie is set to release in April 2020.

Billie Eilish performs at the Oscars:

The song’s release comes just days after Billie Eilish’s wonderful performance at the Academy Awards. The singer has gained a huge fan following in the past year. No Time To Die could earn her another trophy. The last two Bond themes, Adele’s Skyfall and Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall, both won an Oscar.

Last month, Eilish swept the four biggest prizes at the Grammys – Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. She became the youngest solo performer to ever do so. She also took home best pop vocal album, for a total of five Grammys.
