Marvel Studio is coming up with another movie from amongst its line-up, but this one is unique. “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is one of the newest works of studios, and has an almost all-Asian cast. President and producer Kevin Feige said that the movie will have 98% cast who are Asians. This is perhaps the first time that Marvel has taken such a step to look elsewhere for its hero related roles.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings -The Movie
Kevin Feige was invited as a guest speaker at New York Film Academy. During a Q&A session, one of the audience members asked the Marvel boss about an interesting question. They asked how does the studio decide which character would make the jump from comics to Marvel Studios. You can watch the complete show in the video below.
“Sometimes you’re choosing the title hero, you’re choosing which main character or main team you want to bring to the screen. And often times, as you’re making and developing the movie, [asking], ‘Who will come into it? Who will fit into it?’”
Basically, Kevin Feige explained that the selection varies and mostly depends on the need of characters in an on-going project. He continued this and took up Shang-Chi movie as a reference:
“Like Shang-Chi, we’ve wanted to make that movie for a long time. We want to make a movie with a 98% Asian cast.”
there is not much to talk about the movie which is set for release in the year 2021. however, we do know that it stars Awkwafina, Simu Liu, and Tony Chiu-Wai Leung. Feige strengthened his words by explaining a reference from one of the past movies. He discussed Captain America: Civil War and claimed that the inclusion of Black Panther in the movie was the”greatest thing that ever happened.” Kevin Feige also revealed that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be much more than just a Kung Fu movie.
The Marvel boss believes that there should be more diversity to the characters and cast. He said that this was always the plan for the studios.
