The star of recent movies like The Edge of Tomorrow and War of the Worlds, Tom Cruise, is set to feature in the latest Top Gun: Maverick movie in 2020. There aren’t many films that get a sequel after almost three decades of its original production. But then, not many films are as good and as memorable as this one.
Tom Cruise Starer Top Gun: Maverick | Plot, Cast & Release Date
The sequel to the original has been the talk-of-the-town for almost ten years now. It’s one of Tom’s most iconic roles. Seems like age is just a number for Tom Cruise. At 57, he has thrilled us with his action-filled performances in Jack Reacher and Mission Impossible movies. Top Gun: Maverick will surely be up-to-the-mark as well.
The story revolves around Cruise’s character, Maverick, who is now a flight instructor. In the new movie, Goose’s son, Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), sees Tom Cruise as his mentor. Tom, however, is dealing with his own issues as we see Ed Harris telling him this in the released trailer:
You should be at least a two-star admiral by now. Yet here you are, captain. Why is that?
The star-studded cast playing alongside Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick includes the likes of Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Monica Barbaro, Glen Powell, and Val Kilmer. However, the love interest of Tom Cruise in the original movie, Kelly McGillis, will not be a part of the cast this time. She said this about Connelly playing the role, according to Entertainment Tonight:
I’m old and I’m fat, and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about.
She added that while she doesn’t know Jennifer, she is:
So glad that she got that opportunity.
The release date is now set for June 26th, 2020 instead of the previously announced July 2019. According to the directors, the flight scenes require more time.
