Last year, when we had nowhere to go because of the pandemic, Netflix decided to bless us with Tiger King. From the beginning, we knew that this documentary series is more than what it seems. The moment we were introduced to Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin, the world as we know changed. While we thought it was just a one-time thing, Netflix has other plans. Recently, it was announced that season 2 will be coming later this year. While the details are still unknown, Baskin seems to be very upset with the news.

Although the show is about private zoos, the first season highlighted the lives of Joe Exotic and his rival, Carole Baskin

On the surface, Tiger King is about private zoo owners who breed big cats and animal sanctuaries. However, the moment Joe Exotic was introduced, it was clear that this show is much more than that. As the name suggested, Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, it had it all and then some. The real fun started when Exotic’s private life was explored. In a strange turn of events, we met Joe’s two husbands and eccentric employees. Each member of his zoo had a story of their own.

On the other hand, his rival, Carole Baskin, is an enigma. While she has made her life’s mission to rescue big cats, it was her personal life that took the center stage. During the show, it was revealed that her first husband went missing 21 years ago. Although she refuses to know what exactly happened, there are many speculations. After the release of Tiger King, Baskin felt betrayed by the producers.

Recently, it was announced that season 2 of Tiger King will come out later this year.

After the success of season 1, there were many rumors of converting into TV series and films. While Nicholas Cage and Rob Lowe were the contenders to play Joe Exotic, nothing came of it. However, Netflix recently announced that there will be a season 2 of Tiger King. According to the producers, Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, there is a lot of leftover footage which they could not show due to time constraints. Therefore, they have decided to bring Tiger King back. Although Joe Exotic is in prison at the moment, he will also make an appearance.

After the news came out, Carole Baskin expressed her displeasure and released a statemement

Previously, she accused the producers of Tiger King to portray her as the villain. She was not happy with the disappearance of her first husband, Don Lewis, explored on-screen. Similarly, Carole Baskin expressed her anger about season 2. In a statement, she wrote:

“I don’t know how they put out a Tiger King 2 when Joe Exotic’s in jail and I’m refusing to be played again. Rebecca Chaiklin said she wanted to ‘clear the air’ about what they did to me in Tiger King. I told her to lose my number. There is no explanation for such a betrayal and false portrayal.”

Furthermore, she highlighted the upcoming documentary, The Conservation Game. It explores the illegal trade of exotic animals. While talking about it, Baskin wrote:

If people really want to know how the horrific and unsafe conditions tigers endure in the U.S. was started, they should be demanding to see The Conservation Game. His film answers the important questions that Tiger King glossed over.

Whether Carole Baskin likes it or not, she will be appearing in season 2. At the same time, Don Lewis’ case. But the question is, will season 2 of Tiger King live up to the hype of season 1?
