Police believe Human Remains Found in Wyoming Matches Gabby Petito

After a week-long non-stop search, it looks like the police have found the body of Gabby Petito. Although the autopsy is still underway, her family is mourning her likely death. A few months ago, the 22-year-old aspiring YouTuber went on a cross-country trip with her boyfriend. However, the family did not hear from her after 25th August. While her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie returned, there was no trace of Petito. At the moment, Laundrie is also missing and police are searching for him. He is also the person of interest in this case.

Timeline of Gabby Petito’s disappearance:

In July, Gabby Petito and her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie left New York for Florida. The couple moved into Laundrie’s parents’ house. According to their social media, the couple converted a white camper van for their trip. After that, they planned to go on a cross-country trip in their van. Throughout their journey, Gabby Petito kept posting on social media. The couple visited and camped in multiple national parks and nature reserves in places like Utah, Colorado, Kansas, and Wyoming.

In August, Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie had an argument that led to a physical fight. When a passerby saw them arguing, they called the cops. According to the body cam footage, Petito was badly shaken and crying. Meanwhile, Laundrie seemed calm and kept laughing. However, he had bruises and scratch marks on his face, neck, and arms. After the police talked to them, Laundrie decided to not press charges.

On 24th August, Petito contacted her family directly for the last time. According to Gabby Petito’s mother, she face-timed her and told her that they were heading to the Teton range in Wyoming. After that, they kept in touch through text messages. However, that also stopped on August 30th.

On 1st September, Brian Laundrie returned to Florida in the same van they were traveling in. However, Petito was not with her. At the same time, he did not inform the police or authorities about her absence.


After a couple of weeks, Gabby Petito’s family, who live in New York, filed a missing person report. Even then, Laundrie or his family did not come forward with any explanation. However, they asked the police to come on Friday for their statement.

On 17th September, Laundrie’s family declared him missing as well. According to them, Brian Laundrie has not been seen since Tuesday. At the same time, police took the van in their possession and announced Laundrie to be the person of interest in the case.

Yesterday, the police found remains of a body which could be Gabby Petito

While the police are still looking for Brian Laundrie, they found remains of a body which can be of Gabby Petito. The body was found in the national park in Wyoming. According to FBI agent, Charles Jones, the forensic team has to still confirm if it is indeed Gabby Petito’s body. During the press conference, he said:

As every parent can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for her family. The cause of death has not been determined.

Although the police have not made any confirmation, Petito’s family is mourning her likely death. Her father, Joseph Petito posted a picture of her on Twitter and wrote:

On the other hand, the Laundrie family is paying their condolences to the Petito family. At the moment, Brian Laundrie is still missing. The police have yet to confirm if it is indeed Gabby Petito’s body. So far, the cause of death is also unknown. Therefore, the investigation will continue.
