John Cena “super sad” about Dave Bautista distancing himself from WWE
There was a time when Dave Bautista, using the stage name Batista, dominated World Wrestling Entertainment, also known as WWE. He won multiple heavyweight and other championships. However, he has now put all of his focus on his acting career. But, that’s not all. Dave Bautista is now almost actively trying to distance himself from his past of being an entertainer on WWE. And although John Cena understands why Dave Bautista does so, he is “super sad” over it.
Dave Bautista refuses to join WWE wrestlers John Cena and Dwayne Johnson in a movie
It all started when news broke out that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was planning to make a movie with John Cena. Upon hearing this news, a Twitter user tagged Dave Bautista in a tweet, saying that he should join the two former WWE stars in the movie. However, instead of joining hands with them, Bautista openly denied, saying:
Nah, I’m good!!
This, of course, caused a lot of noise on social media. News spread swiftly that Dave Bautista is distancing himself from his past in the WWE. Understandably, this didn’t go well with his fans. Therefore, Bautista had to step in and clarify his comments. He tweeted, sharing a collage of the characters he has played:
I figured a visual reference might help. I’d just prefer not to be lumped in. Nothing personal.
John Cena understands why his former WWE colleague wants to distance himself from his past, but is bummed out about it
Of course, this was not a small comment and it soon reached John Cena. In an interview with Esquire, Cena opened up about Bautista’s comments, saying he understands why he did what he did. However, it still made him sad, saying:
I’m super sad about that because Dave Bautista is an unbelievably gifted actor. He’s done some amazing work. But I think when someone makes a statement like that, I think the important thing is to try and look at things from their perspective. Dave has worked so hard on his craft. And he is so dedicated to his characters. And really wants to put forth a body of work that gives him his own identity. I 100 percent understand that.
Ever since Dave Bautista parted ways with WWE, he has worked quite a lot in Hollywood and has proven himself to be a very capable actor. He has worked on Blade Runner 2049, the MCU and Guardians of the Galaxy (as Drax), Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, and is now teaming up with Jason Momoa for season 2 of the TV series See. Therefore, it is safe to say that Bautista has really proven his mettle. And John Cena agrees with that too, respecting his decision to form his own identity, continuing:
He really just wants to be identified and recognized for his work. And I cannot fault him for that. I applaud him for it. To be brave enough to say something like that kind of allows him to go forth on his own and I appreciate that.
