There was a reason why Joss Whedon’s Justice League was the butt of many jokes. From disjointed storyline to Henry Cavill’s CGI lip, the movie had absolutely nothing going in its favor. But with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Warner Bros. managed to rectify themselves and fix the movie to quite some extent. So much so that they even managed to fix Superman’s CGI lip. And now, a producer of the movie opens up about the entire ordeal.

There were a lot of problems surrounding the 2017 Justice League. After Snyder stepped back from the movie after suffering a family tragedy, Gal Gadot had injured her back. Moreover, when Joss Whedon came to do some reshoots, Henry Cavill was already growing a mustache for Mission: Impossible – Fallout. And Paramount had banned Cavill from shaving off his mustache, which is why they had to resort to CGI. But, the CGI job was so… aberrant that it pretty much became a meme itself.

Recently, Justice League producer Charles Roven talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the infamous CGI removal in the Snyder Cut. He explained that removing the CGI was extremely complicated than just a few reshoots, as the producer told THR:

We were dealing with very complicated scenes. They were so complicated in terms of their structure and the additional shooting issues, and of course we also had the fact that we were hoping for Henry to shave his beard.

CGI lip was added to ensure Justice League releases on time

Moreover, Roven revealed that there were genuine concerns that they couldn’t be able to pull it off. But, the crew working for Warner Bros. somehow managed to do it. In the end, they still had to go with CGI in 2017 just to release Justice League on time, saying:

We were very worried that we weren’t going to be able to accomplish that in a way that wasn’t visible. And in fact we were right to be worried about that. To open a movie with your Superman and have his face look funny – I wouldn’t say that was one of the great decisions that were made. But it was a decision that was made because of many other things, as opposed to protecting the movie. It was a decision that was made to protect a release date.

Apart from Roven, Zack Snyder also commented he was happy with the removal of the GCI lip. This is because he didn’t want that CGI to be the legacy of a movie his team worked so hard on. Therefore, he was jovial over witnessing his work being redeemed with the Justice League Snyder Cut. While talking to MTV, Snyder said:

I’ve only seen it in memes, you know, it was funny, because you know, part of me is happy that we were able to have that not be the total legacy of the hard work that he had done in the last 10 years. It’s sad to think that, that would’ve been the last view that people had of Superman was that, whatever that is.
