Ashley Tisdale defends Selena Gomez after distasteful joke about her Kidney Transplant
After a few TV shows made jokes about Selena Gomez and her kidney transplant, Ashley Tisdale came to her defense. At the same time, she slammed the makers of these shows and called the jokes tasteless. It also upset her fans.
In 2017, Selena Gomez had to get a kidney transplant due to complications from lupus
Back in 2015, Selena Gomez revealed that she had lupus, an autoimmune disease that can damage organs. After taking a break for a year, she finally announced in 2017 that she got a kidney transplant. In an Instagram post, Gomez thanked her best friend, Francia Raisa, for the gift of life. She wrote:
It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery.
Thanking her friend, Selena Gomez wrote:
And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.
However, some TV shows thought it was okay for them to joke about this life-threatening event
Despite the fact that Selena Gomez had to go through an incredibly risky surgery, some show makers joked about it. Previously, Saved By The Bell Reboot made a joke about her transplant but apologized later. Similarly, The Good Fight has come under fire for the same reason. In a recent episode of legal drama, characters discussed topics that can not be joked about. Among necrophilia and autism, they included Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant.
Soon after, #respectselenagomez started trending. It also got a response from the singer herself, who wrote in a tweet:
I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently. I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air.
At the same time, she thanked her fans and wrote:
My fans always have my back. LOVE YOU. If you are able to please sign up to be an organ donor https://organdonor.gov/sign-up
After the news came out, Ashley Tisdale also spoke about the tacky way TV shows joked
On her Instagram stories, Ashley Tisdale blasted The Good Fight and showed her support for Selena Gomez. She slammed the show makers and said that they should go back to school and come up with something clever and actually funny. At the same time, she praised her friend and said:
“It takes courage to come out and let people in to what you are personally going through. And in turn your [sic] making that persons journey into a joke.”
She also said that it is sad that celebrity hardships become a source of jokes for the writers. At the moment, Selena Gomez is busy promoting her TV show, Only Murders in the Building.
