In order to educate her fellow musician, Miley Cyrus shared an important post on Instagram. Her post came after DaBaby faced major backlash over his homophobic comments about the LGBTQIA+ community. While the internet is not in a mood to forgive, Wrecking Ball star wants to help him out.
Last week, DaBaby came under-fire when he made several ignorant comments about LGBTQIA+ community
During his performance at Miami Rolling Loud Festival, DaBaby asked the crowd to hold their cellphones skywards. At the same time, he said:
If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up! Ladies, if your p***y smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up! Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d**k in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up!
After these comments, people got really upset and expressed their anger on social media. At the same time, Dua Lipa, Madonna, Elton John, and activist groups like GLAAD condemned the rapper for his words. However, Miley Cyrus took a different route and did not cancel him outright.
After the controversy, Miley Cyrus emerged as the bigger person and lend a helping hand towards her fellow musician
When the entire world decided to cancel DaBaby, Miley Cyrus realized that would not help. Therefore, she took to Instagram and shared an essential message. She wrote:
As a proud and loyal member of the LGBTQIA+ community, much of my life has been dedicated to encouraging love, acceptance, and open mindedness. The internet can fuel a lot of hate & anger and is the nucleus of cancel culture. But I believe it can also be a place filled with education, conversation, communication & connection. It’s easier to cancel someone than to find forgiveness and compassion in ourselves or take the time to change hearts and minds. There’s no more room for division if we want to keep seeing progress! Knowledge is power! I know I still have so much to learn!
Furthermore, Miley Cyrus asked DaBaby to check his DMs so that they could sit and talk. She also stated that it is important to learn from each other for a more just and understand future.
Despite Cyrus’ offer, brands and music events are cutting ties with DaBaby.
After many celebrities and musicians condemned him, he is also losing brands endorsements and festival deals. BooHoo Man, a clothing company, was the first to terminate his commercial deal. At the same time, music festivals including Lollapalooza, the Governors Ball, and Austin City Limits, iHeartRadio Music Festival, and Music Midtown dropped him and issued statements.
It was only after the uproar that DaBaby decided to issue an apology stating:
I want to apologize to the LGBTQ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologize for the misinformed comments I made about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important.
Whether he will respond to Miley Cyrus or not, only time will tell. However, people are not buying his apology and are set on canceling him.
