Recently, K-Pop star, Kris Wu came under-fire when several women accused him of rape. Although he kept denying the allegations, he has been arrested by Beijing police. Since his arrest, many more women have come forward with similar allegations and things are not looking good for the star.
According to sources, the first allegation came from a student, Du Meizhu, who posted on social media.
Earlier in July, Du Meizhu accused Kris Wu of se*ually assaulting her while she was drunk. In a social media post, she wrote that her first meeting with Wu was at the age of 17. While attending a party at his house, Du was forced into drinking alcohol and woke up in his bed the next day. According to her, seven other women are a victim of his assault. Wu seduced them with promises of work, among which some are minors. However, it has come to light that there are more than 24 women who have come forward with similar allegations.
Despite Du Meizhu bravely coming forward, Kris Wu has denied all allegations.
Not only did he deny Du’s account of se*ual assault, he also rejected all the other women and their stories. In order to defend himself, Kris Wu posted on social media and said:
“There was no ‘groupie s*x’! There was no ‘underage’! If there were this kind of thing, please everyone relax, I would put myself in jail!”
At the same time, his lawyers are suing Du for defamation. Kris’ management team has also denied the accusations and said that they will take legal action on this fabricated story. However, Kris Wu was arrested few days ago by the Beijing police. His arrest was made in response to the social media allegations of rape and for deceiving minors into having se*ual relations.
After his arrest, several brands cut ties with him and terminate his contracts.
Although he had become a solo artist now, Kris Wu first shot to fame as part of South Korean-Chinese boy-band, ‘Exo‘. However, he left the band in 2014 and moved back to China to pursue his solo career. Apart from music, Kris Wu has worked in several films including Mr. Six and Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back. He made his Hollywood debut in XXX: Return of Xander Cage. With fame came endorsements and brand associations. Wu had contracts with many national and international brands. However, since the news of his arrest came out, several brands are cutting ties with him. According to reports, Shanghai cosmetics brand, Kans and detergent brand, Liby have terminated his contracts. Kiehl’s and snack brand, Bestore has also removed mentions of him from their Weibo pages. Similarly, TV program, Ethereal Sound has said that they will no longer work with Kris Wu.
Although he has been arrested and detained, the investigation is still going on. Let’s hope that the victims of his heinous crime get proper justice.
