The Purge Renewed for Season On USA Network

USA Network has renewed James DeMonaco's movie franchise inspired show The Purge for a second season

You are legally allowed to wreak havoc on Earth and unleash terror-that was the premises of James DeMonaco’s film-The Purge. Starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey- it was a home invasion horror movie. It became a phenomenal hit which spurred four more movies in the franchise. Furthermore, the franchise premise turned into a TV show on the USA Network in 2018

The Purge on USA Network

USA Network adapted The Purge franchise in a TV show. It premiered on 4th September, 2018. It became the top rated TV show on the network. It’s average viewership was 2.3 million out of which 1.2 million were adults. The show followed the same premise as the movie franchise. Viewers follow the lives of seven strangers living in a small town under the totalitarian government. We see their lives leading up to the fateful night when all violence in allowed for 12 hours. USA Network aired 10 episodes of the show.

Renewal for The Purge Season 2

The season finale of the show aired on 6th November. The fans of the show did not have to wait long however. Even before the season finale aired, news broke out that the show has been renewed for season 2. An official statement came from Chris McCumber, president, Entertainment Networks for NBC Universal Cable Entertainment,

“USA Network is so proud to be the television home for the iconic franchise The Purge. The partnership and creative trust of [executive producer] Jason Blum and everyone at Blumhouse Television and Universal Pictures ensured The Purge’s successful transition from film to TV — and along with Universal Cable Productions, we look forward to digging even deeper into the mythology in season two.”

Jason Blum also confirmed the news in an official statement,

“James DeMonaco has done it again: The propulsive and compelling story he created for season one of The Purge truly resonated with audiences in a significant way. We are thrilled to embark on season two and can’t wait to bring more of James’ vision to USA and fans of The Purge.”

Blum’s Blumhouse Productions produces the series with Universal Cable Productions. In addition, Andrew Form of Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay, Thomas Kelly, BradFuller and, Sebastian K. Lemercier are also executive producers on the show.

The premiere date for the season 2 of The Purge hasn’t announced yet. However, USA Network will be bring back James DeMonaco and Jason Blum as producers on the show.
