Lynne Spears tells court to let Britney Spears hire a private attorney

Is Britney Spears’ mom finally supporting her? Britney’s mom Lynne Spears asked the court to let Britney hire a private attorney for herself.

Is the tide finally turning in favor of Britney Spears? It seems like the brutal conservatorship the pop icon finds herself in is beginning to crumble. First, her manager of 25 years resigned after the details of the conservatorship emerged in her bombshell court testimony. Then, one of the co-conservators, a financial firm named Bessemer Trust withdrew their name from the conservatorship, again citing that they respect her wish to end the conservatorship. Throughout the past year, Britney has worked with her court-appointed attorney. But now, it seems that her mother instead wants her to have a private attorney.

These are just a few of many things that Britney Spears told the court. Britney’s appeal to remove her father from the conservatorship got denied by the judge recently but she is still fighting it. One of many requests that Britney made in the court was the ability to select her own representation. And now, her mother wants the same for her too.

Britney is fighting this conservatorship on her own and on top of that her attorney decided to resign last Tuesday. Samuel Ingham III who was Britney’s attorney said that he resigned because he was extremely upset over claims that Spears made about him in court. Britney felt like her lawyer was more loyal to the conservatorship than he was to his very own client.

On the same day, Lynne Spears’ attorney filed a petition, saying that Britney should be allowed to hire a private attorney. Lynne’s attorney wrote:

It is self-evident that before the Court addresses, for example, the termination of the conservatorship, Conservatee must be allowed to consult with counsel of her choosing. Clearly, Conservatee needs private counsel to advise her as to her basic rights in this conservatorship.

Will the court let Britney Spears hire a private attorney now or not? Considering that she has lost all faith in her previous attorney, it may look likely. But will her mother Lynne’s letter prove to be instrumental in Britney’s fight against her conservatorship? Perhaps Lynne’s letter is an indication that things are falling apart within the Spears family, and that she wants her daughter freed from her husband, Jamie Spears’ control. Only time can tell us but we do hope that Britney gets the justice she deserves.
