Friends’ Lisa Kudrow talks about not getting cast as ‘Frasier’
Friends star, Lisa Kudrow, talks about how she was fired from the show Frasier just a few days before getting cast as Phoebe in the hit 90s sitcom. It turns out that her iconic role of Phoebe came at the cost of her role in Frasier. Back then, she only had to choose one between Friends and Frasier, and she chose the former.
We all know Lisa Kudrow from the show Friends. She played the famous character Phoebe Buffay and her character was fierce, bold, but also naive and believed in supernatural beings. People loved Phoebe on the screen and Lisa’s performance earned her a lot of rightful prase. However, before Friends, Lisa was still trying to make a name for herself. There was another show being aired around the same time as Friends – ‘Frasier’. Frasier is also a sitcom and Lisa was supposed to play Roz Doyle in it. However, things didn’t workout as planned and the producers ended up hiring Peri Gilpin instead of Lisa Kudrow for the role.
Lisa Kudrow was fired from the show Frasier?
Kudrow opened up about her role as Roz Doyle on the show Frasier. She was in the pilot of the show. After three days of filming Frasier, Lisa was pulled from the role because she was not fit for the role. She recently did an interview with co-stars of Friends, Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox. The three of them appeared on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday where Lisa opened up about her problems with the director of Frasier, James Burrows. Lisa had to leave because she thought she was not right for the chemistry of the group. The 57-year-old said:
I was not right for the part or for the chemistry of the group. So that was not working but I did think ‘Oh I am not this guy’s cup of tea’
If Lisa had not left Frasier, it could have cost her the role on Friends, so we are glad it all worked out honestly. Lisa revealed that she was the one out of six people who had to go in and audition for Jimmy. She continuedL
I had one extra audition just for James Burrows. I did it and he went, ‘No notes.’ I left going, ‘That either means she’s beyond help and helpless. Just like I always knew,’ or ‘Yeah, it’s perfect. I have no notes,’
Lisa also said that James was right she was not made for the role of Roz Doyle and Peri Gilpin was the right choice all along. And the rest of the world agrees that Lisa was absolutely perfect for Phoebe.
