This is not an issue that just came up. Britney Spears has been under a conservatorship helmed by her father for more than a decade. Her father did this when a decade ago Britney’s mental health got worse which resulted in her ending up in rehab. But none of that affected the celebrity’s career. One after the other, the singer kept making albums and absolute bangers. However, Britney is now 39 years old and she is still under the conservatorship. Britney’s fans have shown immense support to the singer, starting the movement called #FreeBritney. Britney’s conservatorship has been private since the beginning but the singer recently decided with her lawyers that it was about time the conservatorship is open to the public.
Britney Spears does not want her father to be the head of her conservatorship
Britney no longer wants her dad to be the head of her conservatorship and she is taking every legal action she can to remove him. Spears has been fighting for her rights for a long time now. Britney has been paying for her family’s vacations and trips as well from the money she earns. Rumors are that Britney was stable when she got admitted into a mental health clinic and that was just a punishment for her. On June 23, 2021, Britney Spears spoke about the conservatorship she is under for the first time in her life in a court hearing. She said:
I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane. And I’m depressed. I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane. And I’m depressed. I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. It’s not okay to force me to do anything I don’t want to do.
