About two months since rapper Mac Miller passed away, the cause of his death has been confirmed by his final autopsy report. Miller, whose real name was Malcolm James McCormick is known to have publicly struggled with substance abuse.
The toxicology report compiled by a Los Angeles Coroner reports that 26-year-old Miller died due to “mixed toxicity” or “multiple drug toxicity”. A mixture of the drugs cocaine and the powerful opioid fentanyl were found in his system.
According to the report, Miller also had alcohol in his system at the time of his death. This means that it was the combination of three separate drugs and alcohol that killed Mac Miller. One drug on its own probably wouldn’t have done as much damage.
Moreover, it was on Sept.7 when paramedics found Miller unresponsive in his Los Angeles home. Soon after that, they had pronounced him dead due to an apparent overdose. Meanwhile, the autopsy took place on Sept. 10.
Ariana Grande and Lil Xan Pay Their Tributes
As we know, Miller died just a few months after his break-up with Ariana Grande. This was also just a few weeks after he released his last album “Swimming,” which did really well. His music often examined his struggles with depression and drug use. But he’d been on his way to one of the biggest names in hip-hop.
He was also remembered at a public vigil in Pittsburgh in September and a tribute show in Los Angeles last week. Other artists apart from Ariana Grande have paid him their tributes too. In fact, rapper Lil Xan seems to be making a whole album on him, titled after Miller’s last words to him: ‘Be Safe’.
As for the autopsy, more information is yet to be reported.
