Indiana Jones may seem impervious to any kind of injuries, but the actor who portrays him is not. Harrison Ford injured himself recently while filming his upcoming movie Indiana Jones 5. As a result, Ford will be spending some time away from the set as his treatment begins and evaluates his return to filming.
The movie will debut in cinemas on July 29, 2022, almost 15 years after the last installment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. Initially, Steven Spielberg was going to direct this movie, however, he passed the mantle onto James Mangold. Mangold also has a rich CV, with Ford v Ferrari and Logan under his belt. That said, Spielberg will remain as a producer in the film. We don’t know the plot details but are aware that Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen will co-star in the film alongside Harrison Ford.
Indiana Jones 5 began filming earlier this month in the UK, after experiencing multiple delays. However, despite Ford’s absence, Mangold will continue to shoot the movie. A statement by Disney’s spokesperson read:
In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder. Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.
Harrison Ford has a history of on-set injuries
Nevertheless, the studios didn’t reveal much about the extent of Ford’s injury, except that it was in his shoulder. However, this is not the first time that Harrison Ford has been injured on set. He has sustained injuries in the past while filming Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom when he suffered a serious back injury, and when he was filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where he underwent leg trauma.
Moreover, Ford was almost ran-over by Star Trek star Garett Wang, as he once recalled:
I’m cruising around, I’m actually speeding around the parking lot, and I come around this one bend, and this guy in a suit walks between two cars right in front of my car. So I slam on my breaks, and you know when you almost have an accident, your heart is beating a thousand miles a minute? And I lock eyes with this dude in the suit, and it’s Harrison Ford! I look at him, and I go ‘Oh my God, I almost killed Han Solo, Indiana Jones!’
