Gigi Hadid shared something about her multiethnic daughter
Recently, Gigi Hadid had an interview with i-D magazine in which she opened up about how she is navigating the multiethnic identity of her daughter with her boyfriend, Zayn Malik who is half Pakistani and half British himself. The reporter at i-D asked the supermodel:
How you’re approaching parenthood. So much of it is instinctive, but I find with raising a mixed-race child, lots of it is actively thinking about how to address that.
Gigi’s father, Mohammad Hadid is Palestinian and her mother, Yolanda is Dutch, so the supermodel has an idea about how it feels like growing up with a multiethnic heritage. Gigi talked about this situation and said:
Zayn and I think about it and talk about it a lot as partners and it’s something that’s really important to us, but it’s also something that we first experienced ourselves. We are that first generation of those mixed races, and then that comes with that first generational experience of being like, ‘Oh damn, I’m the bridge!’ That’s not something that my parents experienced or that they can really help me through. It’s something I’ve always thought about my whole life.
If you research Gigi Hadid, you will find out that her father, Mr. Hadid is Palestinian and an Arab. She talks about this as well and says she feels ‘too white’ to stand up for part of her Arab heritage. The supermodel also talked about how she went through life trying to figure out where she fits racially. Gigi also said that she has assured that her daughter Khai will grow up to be proud of her origins.
The supermodel also said:
I think that Khai will grow up feeling out the way that she can or wants to be a bridge for her different ethnicities
