There’s been little information about Waititi’s next project since the Oscar-winner commenced production of Thor 4. But, he has given his fans a hint about any prospects of working with George Lucas. In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, he talked about finishing filming and the post-production of Thor: Love and Thunder by February of 2022. Furthermore, he also talked about any future projects, which he’ll start working on after Thor, saying:

I don’t know if that’s going to be Star Wars. I hope it’ll be that but there’s a whole lot of other little things that I’ve got my sticky little fingers attached to so we’ll see.

Waititi is no stranger to Star Wars. Apart from directing an episode of The Mandalorian and featuring in it as IG-11, the director is also set to write the new Star Wars project with 1917‘s Krysty Wilson-Cairns. So, chances are that Lucasfilm might snap him away to direct or at least lead their next trilogy. However, there may be some time till that happens. In the past decade, fans have had enough of Star Wars for some time. They saw a plethora of Star Wars movies and may need a break for some time to rebuild the hype. Moreover, the controversial ending of the last trilogy with The Rise of Skywalker did not help at all. Therefore, Lucasfilm will have to tread carefully.

In other news, Taika Waititi is glad to wrap up filming Thor 4, as the director wrote on Instagram:

Sometimes two people come together to inspire the world and change the cinematic landscape forever. And then there’s me and @chrishemsworth who are too cool to care about anything except making movies that bring people absolute joy. Ok I don’t look cool I know that. This film is the craziest thing I’ve ever done and I’m honoured to bust my a*s and have a nervous breakdown so you can all see it in May 2022.
