Wonder Woman star didn’t know he would be in Zack Snyder’s Justice League
Wonder Woman star David Thewlis, who played Ares in the film, has said that he never knew he was in Zack Snyder‘s Justice League. The actor has played quite prominent roles in the past, including Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter saga. More recently, he portrayed the God of War in Wonder Woman. However, he was not aware that he actually reprised that role in the Snyder Cut.
David Thewlis was in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and he never knew
Thewlis’ Ares actually made a brief appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However, it was so ephemeral that most people simply ignored it. It was miniscule compared to the enormous screen time that the two additional hours of the Snyder Cut gave to each character. So much so that Thewlis himself only recently found out about it.
In his recent Instagram post, the actor posted a screengrab from his appearance in Justice League. He clearly said he had no memory of shooting this scene and didn’t know the other gentlemen as well. And he also had issues with how tiny his arm was. The actor wrote:
I would just like to say that I have no recollection of this ever happening – I assume it was before lockdown. I do not know these gentlemen and I have no idea why my left arm is so tiny. Anyone with further information please come forward.
It’s completely understandable for Thewlis’ memory to be blurred by the hew as a result of the pandemic. However, the truth is that it’s not actually him in the movie. We do see his face in the movie briefly as Ares, however, Zack Snyder never really call him on the set for shooting any additional footage. Instead, they used a body double and then used the old CGI magic to superimpose Thewlis’s face on him.
That said, Thewlis will get to play with CGI, albeit not in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Instead, he’ll be starring in James Cameroon’s Avatar sequels and will play a Na’vi named Peylak from the third to the fifth installment of the franchise. Furthermore, he’ll also be a voiceover in the upcoming animated Terry Pratchett adaptation The Amazing Maurice. He’ll be accompanied by David Tennant, Emilia Clarke, and Hugh Laurie among others.
