I had a major crush on Jen. At some point we were both crushing hard on each other.
He also added that
But it was like a two ships passing. one of us was always in a relationship so we never crossed that boundary. we respected that. When we had breaks from rehearsal, there were moments we would cuddle on the couch.
Jennifer Aniston also shared that she talked about their feelings for each other:
Honestly, I remember saying one time to David, ‘It’s going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is going to be on national television. Sure enough, first time we kissed was in that coffee shop. We just channeled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel.
Even Kevin S. Bright, one of the creators of the show, was in awe of the very electric chemistry that Schwimmer and Aniston shared for each other:
“It was a very hot topic on the set because the electricity between them in the scenes was like, ‘Oh my God, they can’t be acting that, there’s got to be something!’ Everybody was suspicious that something was going on. We all thought something might have been going on because they were just so good together.”
Marta Kauffman, also the co-creator of Friends, also revealed that they had an idea that the actors had a crush on each other but didn’t inquire them about it:
“We didn’t know for sure because we never asked either of them, but yes, we thought that perhaps might be going on. It did not wind up inspiring [Ross and Rachel’s storyline] honestly at all. If anything, their ability to channel those feelings into Ross and Rachel just made the longing all the more relatable.”
The rest of the cast also said that they knew that there were real feelings behind the two.
