The story follows how the suicide of a student gets connected to Evan Hansen, a nervous high school student. Hansen finds himself embroiled in a web of falsehoods, familial and romantic relationships. The story begins with a miscommunication: one of the deceased student’s family members misinterprets Hansen’s diaristic letter to himself for the suicide note of a classmate.

What follows is a look at grief, fear, betrayal, and how, even with the world at our fingertips, we can still feel alone.

The cast and crew of the movie is pretty impressive

Starting in 2015, Ben Platt has played Evan Hansen, the musical’s lead character, from early workshops through off-Broadway to Broadway. He even got the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance. Platt’s Broadway stint ended in 2017, but he will reprise the role for the film adaptation. Apart from that, he starred in ‘The Politician’ as the main lead.

It will be difficult to top the award-winning original Broadway cast, but the film version has assembled a strong group. Kaitlyn Dever plays Hansen’s longstanding crush, Zoe. After Zoe’s brother and Hansen’s classmate, Connor, commits suicide, the two become closer. Colton Ryan will play the role of Connor Murphy.

Dever is most popular for her role in the Olivia Wilde-directed coming-of-age film ‘Booksmart’. And she earned a Golden Globes nomination for her appearance in Netflix’s ‘Unbelievable’.

It’s also worth mentioning the film’s behind-the-scenes crew. Stephen Chbosky will serve as director for the film. Chbosky is also an author and he penned the young adult novel ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’. Moreover, Chbosky directed the 2017 picture ‘Wonder’, starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. Steve Levenson, who also authored the Tony-winning Book for ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ musical is writing the movie’s script. Furthermore, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are the executive producers. Paul composed all of Dear Evan Hansen’s lyrics as well.
