According to reports, disgraced Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey is set to make his return in an Italian film. With Franco Nero as the director, the movie will be low-budget Indie film, revolving around the subject of pedophilia. This is the first film role since multiple allegations of abuse and sexual misconduct surfaced against him back in 2017.
The film will be named “L’uomo Che Disegnò Dio,” with Spacey making a cameo in the film as a police detective. With Louis Nero as the producer, the director Franco Nero will also play the lead role himself. As far as the Kevin Spacey’s cameo is concerned, Nero said:
I’m very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film. I consider him a great actor and I can’t wait to start the movie.
The news of Spacey’s casting first came to light on May 22, in a report by ABC News. The film will also feature Vanessa Redgrave, Franco Nero’s wife, provided that she could travel from England to Italy. However, she will only be able to make a cameo as Nero’s piano teacher in the film. Filmitalia explains the film to be about:
the rise and fall of a blind artist who has the extraordinary gift of making true-to-life portraits just by listening to human voices.
The controversy surrounding Kevin Spacey
The sexual assault and misconduct allegations that surfaced in 2017 dealt a huge blow to his career. Netflix removed him from his leading role as Frank Underwood in House of Cards after at least 20 young men, who worked under Spacey at the Old Vic theatre in London, reported sexual misconduct allegations against the actor. Soon after the allegations surfaced, Spacey denied all of them to be untrue while also revealing that he was gay. Since then, Spacey has kept a low profile in the public, barely releasing a few videos on YouTube and making some scant public appearances, like in Rome, where he read a poem about a boxer pondering about his lost career. The last film in which he starred was Billionaire Boys Club in 2018. However, the movie made a dismal $2.7 million at the box office.
Furthermore, in 2018, Spacey was charged with indecent assault in Nantucket Island in an incident involving a teenage boy. The alleged victim later dropped the charges, however, that was not the end for the controversy around Spacey. Later on, actor Anthony Rapp sued Spacey over misconduct as well.
