Although TanaCon happened few years ago, it seems that the failed event has come back to haunt Tana Mongeau. Recently, the manager of the event, Michael Weist appeared on Dr. Phil to tell his side of the story. As expected, Mongeau had the perfect reaction.
For those who are not familiar with Tana Mongeau’s event, here’s a little background.
Back in 2017, VidCon failed to give Tana Mongeau ‘featured creator’ badge, which would have guaranteed her more security. This did not sit well with the YouTuber and urged her to take serious action. Therefore, Mongeau decided to host her convention titled TanaCon in 2018, at the same time and same day as VidCon. On paper, it seemed to be an ideal event for the fans and followers of YouTubers and social media personalities. It was reported that TanaCon will have meet and greets, concerts, as well as food will be served to all attendees.
Celebrities like Bella Thorne, Shane Dawson, Casey Neistat, Miranda Sings, Ricky Dillon, Elijah Daniel, Jenn McAllister, Gabbie Hanna, Trevi Moran, Lisa Schwartz and Jack Baran were to hold panels. Which TanaCon failed to deliver. As per Tana Mongeau’s claims, 20,000 people were going to attend the show. But hardly 4-5 thousand people attended it as the venue was so small. It could hardly fit that many people. Sadly, some of them had to stand in the sun for hours and few got sunburned as well. In the end, TanaCon was cancelled after just one day.
Recently, TanaCon’s manager, Michael Weist appeared on Dr. Phil to share his side of the story
After the failure of TanaCon, people blamed Michael Weist for mismanagement and called him out. In order to present his side of the story, he appeared on Dr. Phil. According to Weist, that failed event changed his life. He had to sell his car and his house. Michael Weist said that he lost almost $750,000 and went bankrupt. At the same time, he received death threats as well as major backlash by people on social media. Although his intention of coming on Dr. Phil was to clear his name, he failed to do that. During the episode, his former employees and people who attended TanaCon held him responsible. While Weist claimed that the event was organized and planned over several months, the TanaCon attendees reminded him that it was less than that. He said that Tana Mongeau posted the video a month before the main event and therefore, he had to organize the entire event in just 30 days. With every passing minute, it was becoming clear that Michael Weist had made the wrong decision to appear on Dr. Phil.
After the episode came out, Tana Mongeau responded on Twitter.
In a series of tweets, she shared her reaction and said:
IM GONNA DO A YOUTUBE VIDEO REACTING TO DR PHIL OMG IM SCREAMINGGGGG
At the same time, Mongeau joked about the situation and said:
should i send dr phil a cease and desist lawsuit for fun
While Weist will continue his story on Dr. Phil, we will be looking forward to Tana Mongeau’s video on this issue. Get your popcorn ready because the drama has just begun!
