Marvel’s obsession with keeping tight-lipped about their upcoming projects is second to none. However, they’re so secretive about their projects that they don’t even let showrunners know what they have in plan for the MCU. And that’s what happened to Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman, who recently revealed that he didn’t know Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘s Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, or “Val”, was going to feature in Marvel’s upcoming Black Widow movie as well!

While talking to ET Online, Spellman revealed he was unaware of the future plans Marvel had in store with Julia Lous-Dreyfus. Fans received a shock when they saw her don the role of Val in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. And for Spellman, he only found out about Val’s involvement in Black Widow right before his interview. He said:

Can I tell you today’s the first day I heard all this from people like you? I didn’t even know. If you look at John Walker, we needed him to go on this journey, and we talked about the CIA and S.H.I.E.L.D. or whatever, and Val emerged as a character who would be the right person to embrace him after all he’s been through. I have no idea about her relationship with Black Widow. They would never in a million years tell me what’s happening in Black Widow. So, I’m telling you the god honest truth, I have no idea how fans are going to react during Black Widow, because I didn’t know until today she was in it. She’s murder [though]. She’s great.

In the show, Julia Louis-Dreyfus makes her debut Marvel appearance in episode 5 as the mysterious and enigmatic Val. There, she recruits disgraced Captain America John Walker (Wyatt Russell) after the US Government shunned and censured him. Val reaches out to him on behalf of a secret government organization that hopes to capitalize on his powers. However, we didn’t find out much about Val’s motives and greater aim in the show.

However, this news will relieve fans that Val will make an appearance in Black Widow. Despite multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Marvel is trying their best to set the premiere of the film in summer. In fact, Val was supposed to make her debut initially in the film based on Natasha Romanoff. However, the pandemic thought otherwise. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the upcoming films intersect with these Disney+ shows.
