After working for Game of Thrones for almost a decade, it looks like Emilia Clarke is ready to make a name for herself in another Hollywood blockbuster franchise. This time, it’s going to be the MCU that will be graced by Clarke’s presence. The 34-year-old is set to make her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of a brand new Disney+ show.
Emilia Clarke joins the MCU!
With her Game of Thrones co-stars Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington already part of the MCU, it only seemed like a matter of time before Clarke joined the franchise as well. Variety reported that Clarke is in the final stage of her talks with Disney to land a role on an upcoming Marvel show named Secret Invasion. However, as the name suggests, the details of the show are mysterious and largely unknown.
We do know that Clarke is joining a star-studded cast of Samuel L. Jackson, who will reprise the role of MCU’s Nick Fury, and Ben Mendelsohn, who was Skrull leader Talos in Captain Marvel. Alongside them, there will be other newcomers like Peaky Blinders‘ Kingsley Ben-Adir, the main villain, and Academy Award winner Olivia Colman.
Apart from the cast, we know that the MCU show is an adaptation of a popular Marvel Comics storyline. In it, we see a rogue faction of the shape-shifting Skrulls replace many of Earth’s superheroes. Their plan – global domination. For now, however, we do not know which Marvel heroes will be appearing in Secret Invasion, and which role Emilia Clarke will don. But with Disney+’s ambitious line of upcoming shows featuring She-Hulk, Hawkeye and Kate Bishop, Loki, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, Ironheart, and War Machine, nothing can be put off the table.
This is Emilia Clarke’s first role on television nearly two years after Game of Thrones. There are several spin-offs and prequel shows planned, and Clarke is all praises for them. She also sent an encouraging message to George RR Martin, saying:
It’s just inevitable. I wish you all the best, it’s gonna be whatever it will be, but of course, they’re doing more. You can’t create something that big and not have people go, ‘And? What else? This is really good! Let’s do loads more!Emilia Clarke to Entertainment Weekly
