Angelina Jolie is returning to screens for family’s sake
After directing By The Sea, it looked like Angelina Jolie truly had a promising career in film directing. However, that isn’t the career path that Jolie has chosen for herself. The actress revealed in a recent interview that she will now stick to acting jobs instead of directing for the wellbeing of her many children, in light of her divorce from Brad Pitt.
Angelina Jolie left directing for her family’s wellbeing
While talking to Entertainment Weekly, the 45-year-old star revealed that recent changes in her familial situation meant that directing was “not possible” for her to pursue in the future. Jolie has 6 children with ex-husband Brad Pitt – Maddox, 18, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Despite the difficulties that come with directing, she “loves” working behind the cameras. But, the shorter schedules that come with acting have been better for her family life, allowing her to give her children more time after her divorce. In that way, Angelina Jolie’s kids would not have to suffer. Jolie said:
I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that’s not made it possible for me to direct for a few years. I needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so I kind of went back to doing a few acting jobs. That’s really the truth of it.
This shows how strong Angelina Jolie’s motherly instincts are. And those instincts often bleed into her characters as well, and that’s what happened in the thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead. Onset, director Taylor Sheridan had to call out Jolie for being too nice on camera to Finn Little’s character, Connor Casserly. Jolie continued:
My character is not maternal by nature. Sometimes Taylor would correct me because my behavior towards a child was different from [Hannah’s] behavior towards a child. It took me a little bit to treat [Little] badly, but I got there!
She admits she was never a “stay-at-home” parent
Despite her motherly instincts, Angelina Jolie at the end of the day is still a working woman. And staying at home all the time for her children is not something that sits well with her. But, she’d rather have a healthy balance between acting and taking care of her children. Jolie said:
I was never very good at sitting still. I feel like I’m lacking in all the skills to be a traditional stay-at-home mom. Even though I wanted to have many children and be a mom, I always imagined it kind of like Jane Goodall, traveling in the middle of the jungle somewhere. I didn’t imagine it in that true, traditional sense.
