It looks like actors and celebrities are now taking an interest in politics more than ever before. And the latest one to express his affinity for politics is The Rock. After Matthew McConaughey, Dwayne Johnson has recently hinted at a run for the White House in the future. He did so after a fan poll result showed people were willing to see him as President of the United States.
Dwayne Johnson hints at a run for the White House
On his Instagram account in front of his 228 million followers, The Rock called the poll “humbling”. The Newsweek poll showed that 46% of people would support Johnson if he was running for President. Humbled by the result, Johnson posted on Instagram:
I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack-wearing guy joining their club – but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people.Dwayne Johnson on Instagram
Furthermore, this isn’t the first time Dwayne Johnson has toyed with the idea of entering politics. Back in 2017, he called the idea a “real possibility,” especially as he eyed a White House run. Johnson told GQ:
I feel like I’m in a position now where my word carries a lot of weight and influence, which of course is why they want the endorsement. But I also have a tremendous amount of respect for the process and felt like if I did share my political views publicly, a few things would happen — and these are all conversations I have with myself, in the gym at four o’clock in the morning — I felt like it would either (a) make people unhappy with the thought of whatever my political view was. And, also, it might sway an opinion, which I didn’t want to do.Johnson to GQ
Recently, The Rock also posted a video calling out Donald Trump for his poor handling of the George Floyd protests, saying “Where is our leader?”. Johnson continued:
Where are you? Where is our leader at this time? At this time when our country is down on its knees, begging, pleading, hurt, angry, frustrated, in pain, begging and pleading with its arms out just wanting to be heard. Where are you?
