Chris Evans thinks Robert Downey Jr. Is Irreplaceable as Iron Man
Marvel pretty much owes its start and explosion into popularity to Robert Downey Jr. If he hadn’t donned the role of Iron Man in 2008, the MCU as we know it could never have existed. But, now he has retired from playing that role. And even his former co-stars, including Captain America Chris Evans, believe that Downey Jr. is irreplaceable and no one else can play Tony Stark as he did.
No one can replace Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, says Chris Evans
While talking to his brother Scott Evans in an interview for ACE Universe, Chris Evans made it clear just how important Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man were for the MCU. Evans was asked which MCU role he would swap for. In response, Evans was compelled to say Iron Man because of the “paycheque” and the “fun”. But, he ultimately admitted the role belongs to Downey Jr. He said:
“The role is, you know, he’s the engine, he’s the life. But I suppose that’s kind of signing up for failure. I don’t think there’s anything anyone on this planet could do that would somehow improve upon what Downey’s done, you know what I mean?
Evans further said that Iron Man is not like James Bond, Superman, or Batman. These roles already had a lot of traction among the public and each new actor brings something different to them. But as far as Tony Stark is concerned, no actor could have portrayed it better than Downey Jr. Evans said:
I don’t consider that a role that’s gonna be like a James Bond or a Superman or Batman, that somehow other people get a bite at the apple. He’s Iron Man, the end.
Downey Jr. has made it abundantly clear that he is done with Iron Man and the MCU. But, that does not stop fans from trying to find some theory that could bring the actor back into the MCU. However, by now it’s clear that his time with Marvel and the Avengers is done.
