‘Death on The Nile’ release delayed to 2022 after Armie Hammer Rape Investigation
A lot of people have been wondering about the release of Disney’s many gigantic releases. These include Black Widow, Cruella, and Luca. However, the movie with the biggest issue in the release is Kenneth Branagh’s mystery ensemble Death on the Nile. This is because Armie Hammer was part of the leading cast members of the movie. And due to Armie Hammer’s rape investigation, Death on the Nile is set to face another delay, pushing its release to 2022.
Armie Hammer’s rape investigation pushes Death on the Nile to 2022
Death on the Nile is a 20th Century Fox production and it reportedly cost $90 million. The last Fox production gave it the green light, before the Disney merger. After that, the movie has faced a number of delays in release due to the pandemic. At first, the movie faced a delay from October to December last year. Then, Disney set the date for September 17th. Now, it looks like the movie will not open until at least February 11th, 2022. And it can be because of one of the cast members – Armie Hammer.
Disney has reportedly said that the delay has nothing to do with Armie Hammer’s rape allegations. However, the allegations are serious and if indicted, could land him in jail for 8 years. LAPD’s investigation in Armie Hammer’s case began in February. However, the news broke out last Thursday, when a 24-year-old woman named Effie read her prepared statement to the press, accusing Hammer of raping her in April 2017. She said:
Armie Hammer raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly slapped my head against a wall, bruising my face. During those four hours, I tried to get away and he wouldn’t let me. I thought that he was going to kill me. He then left with no concern for my wellbeing. I was completely in shock and I couldn’t believe that someone I loved did that to me.
What will become of Death on the Nile?
It looks unlikely that Disney can completely replace Armie Hammer and reshoot the movie. After all, his role Simon Doyle is one of the lead roles in the film. Furthermore, it will be difficult for Disney to assemble the high-profile cast of the movie, which includes Gal Gadot, Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, and more.
While Hammer hasn’t been charged yet, the severity of the allegations makes his inclusion in the film a headache for Disney. Furthermore, prior to the rape investigation, leaked DMs suggested that Hammer had some disturbing sexual fantasies, which included cannibalism as well. As a result, his agency WME dropped him, along with his exit from Jennifer Lopez’s movie Shotgun Wedding.
