Marvel Boss reacts to Captain America returning to MCU Rumor
Ever since Avengers: Endgame, MCU fans have been speculating the return of Captain America as well as Iron Man into the franchise. Even though both these characters have reached their ultimate conclusions, fans loved them a bit too much to let go of them just yet. And then, there were reports back in January that Chris Evans (Steve Rogers) might make a comeback in the MCU. Now, Marvel President Kevin Feige has finally addressed these rumors.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige addresses rumors related to Captain America’s return
In January, Deadline reported that Chris Evans’ Captain America has a deal for “at least one Marvel property with the door open for a second film”. At the time, Evans admitted that even he didn’t know of any such deal. But now, the Marvel boss himself has finally addressed these rumors. And fans will not like hearing it. While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Feige said:
I rarely answer no to anything anymore because things are always surprising me with what happens, but that rumor, I think, was dispelled rather quickly by the man himself.
I guess that pretty much settles it. Once Captain America handed over his shield to Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) in Endgame, his time with Marvel was done. Now, it’s time for Mackie to continue with Steve Roger’s legacy in Marvel’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier, along with Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes. That said, the two Marvel stars were looking forward to seeing Chris Evans as Cap once again. Mackie admitted he had “no idea” what was going on, but said:
I was actually fishing [when the report came out]. When I came back in to get some shrimp, the dude at the dock was like, ‘Hey, man! Did you see this s**t?!’ I’ve been going to the same guy to get my bait for like 20 years and all of a sudden now he’s a fan. He had no idea who I was. Now he’s a fan.
Mackie highlighted how protective Marvel is about their future plans, saying:
Marvel’s so secretive, and it’s so ridiculous about what we know and what we don’t know. I have no idea. The dude at the dock selling me shrimp knows more about what’s going on with Marvel than I do.
Sebastian Stan says anything’s possible
On the other hand, Sebastian Stan said that the possibility of Evans’ return cannot be ruled out. He also emphasized how Captain America is now pretty much tied to the name and face of Chris Evans, praising the actor’s job while playing the role. And if Marvel brings him back, they cannot do so without Evans. Stan said:
Anything is possible, right? I saw he tweeted something about it. So, I don’t know. I feel like usually he knows what to say in those things, so I didn’t know what to make of it. And I truly don’t have any intel on that. I feel like you can’t ever think of the words ‘Captain America’ without thinking about Chris Evans. He’s done such an amazing job with it, and I feel like he’s always going to have this presence. And he has a presence in our show.
Whether Marvel will go out of their way for such fan service is yet to be seen. Until then, we’ll have to wait for Falcon and the Winter Soldier to premiere on Disney+ on March 19, 2021.
