Andy Serkis used to crawl on all fours after filming ‘Lord of The Rings’
Everyone was mesmerized by Andy Serkis’s performance as Gollum. His performance pretty much made him one of the best actors in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. But, it took Serkis some time to come out of character. So much so that he recently admitted he kept moving on four legs even after he finished shooting Lord of the Rings.
Andy Serkis would practice for Gollum by walking on all fours
While talking to The Guardian, Serkis admitted that to prepare for Smeagol, he would walk on all fours even when he wasn’t filming the movie. He said:
I used to walk on all fours off set when we were filming Lord of the Rings, I spent a lot of time in preparation for that [as Gollum]. I would go off for walks on all fours for hours – I did occasionally come into contact with other people, so I just had to pretend I was looking for something. It’s fair to say that’s pretty method.
Furthermore, Andy Serkis admitted that Lord of the Rings was what truly shot him to fame. Nothing else he had done before in his life had done for his career what Peter Jackson’s trilogy did.
I don’t think I could have handled the sort of fame Lord of the Rings sparked if I’d been younger. I was in my late 30s when it exploded. I’m grateful it happened when it did. It was an extraordinary time; so many things came out of that experience and whether I like it or not that role lives with me on a daily basis. It will never go away.
Apart from defeating Sauron, the cast of Lord of the Rings is having a reunion too. They are doing so to gather donations for those affected by COVID-19. Andy Serkis will be joined by Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Peter Jackson, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Liv Tyler, and Viggo Mortensen. Make sure you don’t miss out on that reunion!
