Piers Morgan fired from ITV show after criticizing Meghan Markle
The British Royal family, Meghan Markle, and Piers Morgan are back in the news again. ITV has fired Piers Morgan from Good Morning Britain after the journalist criticized and refused to believe Meghan Markle’s claims in her recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Piers Morgan fired after Meghan Markle sent an official complaint
Recently, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sat in an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. In it, she made some shocking revelations about the British Royal family, saying how she was silenced:
Everyone in my world was given very clear directive to say no comment. Even as things started to roll out in the media… I said ‘Don’t worry, I’m being protected’. I believed that and that was really hard to reconcile because it was only once we were married and things started to worsen that I realised I was not being protected but they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family but they weren’t prepared to tell the truth to protect me
You can read more of the revelations here. However, one of Markle’s biggest critics, Piers Morgan did not stay quiet after listening to the interview. He claimed Markle was lying, continuing:
I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says… I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.
As a result, ITV fired Piers Morgan hours after the host had an on-air row with the weatherman. On Tuesday after returning to the set, Piers Morgan tried to tone down the controversy, saying that mental health should “taken extremely seriously”. However, he still had serious doubt over Markle’s claims, saying he had:
… serious concerns about the veracity of a lot of what [Meghan] said.
Meghan Markle filed an official complaint against Morgan
Later on, there were almost 40,000 complaints against Piers Morgan’s remarks, with many raising the concern that Morgan’s words were insensitive towards those having mental health issues. One of those complaints was by Meghan Markle herself, as an ITV correspondent tweeted:
So… the Duchess of Sussex formally filed a complaint to ITV on Monday. It’s thought to have been sent to the broadcaster’s CEO. Meghan raised concerns about how Piers Morgan’s words affect the issue of mental health and what it might do to others contemplating suicide

The former host stands by his words
However, despite the complaints, Morgan did not retract his words, as a result, ITV let go of Piers Morgan. He tweeted, saying this was his official reason for leaving ITV while quoting former UK war-time Prime Minister Winston Churchill:
On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.

Furthermore, Piers Morgan also had a chat with Sky News outside of his home, saying:
I had a good chat with ITV and we agreed to disagree.
Morgan further elaborated that he is going into temporary “hibernation” but is in contact with people and has ample job offers. What do you think of Piers Morgan’s firing? Did he deserve it, or should he have retracted his words? Let us know in the comments below.
